Barcelona, 27 October 2025 – Verdian Power, an independent power producer (IPP) that designs, builds and operates renewable energy projects and is part of Nuveen Infrastructure’s strategic Clean Energy IV portfolio, yesterday held the second edition of the Fòrum de les Renovables a Catalunya at the Esfèric venue in Barcelona. The event, organised by Verdian and Andersen, a multidisciplinary law firm focused on high value-added legal services, brought together the main stakeholders in the energy sector to discuss the challenges and opportunities of the renewable transition in Catalonia.
The forum was opened by Jordi Francesch, Executive Managing Director of Asset Management at Nuveen Infrastructure, who underlined the rapid evolution of the sector and Catalonia’s potential as a hub of excellence in talent and technological innovation. “We have the know-how, a business and start-up ecosystem of enormous added value, and first-class technological capabilities that allow us to lead the integration of renewables into the grid, optimize consumption and turn flexibility into a strategic asset,” said Francesch.
Digitalisation and storage: pillars of the energy future
The programme continued with the roundtable discussion “Digitalisation and storage: the last opportunity for renewables in Catalonia”, featuring Francesc Filiberto, Head of Business Development at Verdian; Federico Belausteguigoitia, Partner in the Energy practice of Andersen’s Corporate / M&A department; and Daniel Boluda, Southern Europe Regional Director at Capture Energy. The session was moderated by Oier Bolibar, Senior Advisor for Renewable Energy and ESG.
During the debate, speakers agreed on the need to accelerate digitalisation and energy storage as essential levers for integrating renewable energy into the Catalan system. They also addressed key challenges such as administrative delays, grid congestion, project economic viability, and social and community integration as decisive factors in renewable development.
Towards a renewable future
The event concluded with remarks from Alfonso Ortal, CEO of Verdian, who highlighted that “true progress lies not only in generating more energy, but in managing and optimising it intelligently. At Verdian, we are committed to a model that combines renewable generation, battery storage and digital trading to maximise the value of each megawatt hour and contribute to a more efficient and sustainable system.”
The session consolidated the forum as a leading meeting point where experts, investors and companies share experiences and perspectives in a context of technological and regulatory change.
