- This is what emerges from a survey conducted on participants in the second edition of the Italian EnergyTech Conference organized by Verdian and Green Horse Advisory.
- The Conference will take place on January 22nd, 2026, at the NH Collection Milano CityLife Hotel.
Milano, January 14th 2026 – The main strategic priority for energy operators in 2026 will be integrating storage into portfolios, according to a survey conducted on more than 100 participants, who will be attending the second edition of the Italian EnergyTech Conference. A large majority of the sample – 37.5% – gave this indication.
“The electricity system of the future will increasingly require hybrid solutions that can combine different renewables through established or emerging technologies in order to ensure balance and resilience. Battery technology is constantly evolving, so we expect to see interesting developments in the short term.”, commented Alfonso Ortal, CEO of Verdian.
In second place was found “Strengthening forecasting and analytics capabilities” with 11.9% of the answers. Among the top three priorities, immediately afterwards, emerged “Strengthening system resilience and grid-support capabilities” chosen by the 11% of the respondents. Survey participants also reported as priorities “Enhancing trading and short-term market operations” and “Improving long-term hedging and contract optimisation” with around 8% of the preferences both.

“What clearly emerges is that storage, grid infrastructure and data are no longer ‘add-ons’, but structural components of investment strategies,” commented Carlo Montella, Managing Partner at Green Horse Legal Advisory. “The key challenge for operators and investors is no longer just deploying capacity, but evolving business models toward active, data-driven portfolio management — where storage, advanced trading strategies and market intelligence become essential to manage risk, capture optionality and remain competitive in a volatile market environment” added Domenico Vinci, CEO at Green Horse Financial Advisory.
These topics will be the focus of the second edition of the event organized by Verdian, an independent renewable energy producer part of the Nuveen Infrastructure fund, and Green Horse Advisory, a leading advisor for the energy transition. The first edition brought together more than 100 energy operators, sparking a concrete discussion on prospects and solutions in renewable technologies in our Country.
The event will take place on January 22nd, 2026, at the NH Collection Milano CityLife from 2:30 PM to 7:00 PM.
The title of the 2026 edition of the Conference is “Powering Italy with innovation, resilience and next-generation energy trading”, highly topical issues in a context where energy-related developments are at the centre of the political and economic agenda.
The Italian EnergyTech Conference will be an opportunity to explore the evolution of energy infrastructure in Italy, the role of industrial-scale BESS and long-duration storage as a structural response to the seasonality of renewable generation, as well the strategies to expand and optimize the grid to accelerate capacity, efficiency and investment attractiveness.
The evolution of the IPP business model will also be addressed, with an increasingly data-driven outlook, moving beyond simple price-taking to developing advanced trading and market intelligence capabilities supported by AI.
The event is particularly suitable for institutional investors, players in energy transition at different levels (trading, energy desks, optimisers, asset owners, offtakers) and energy focused tech Companies.
